Three Ways to Know When It’s Time to Go!

By January 29, 2020March 29th, 20202 Comments

One of the keys to owning your opportunities is to recognize when you’ve outgrown a situation. You have to know when it’s time to go and then find the courage to make your move!

Many people find themselves unwilling to take the risk of leaving a situation that no longer benefits them. Instead, they remain stuck in their misery or discontent rather than seek a new challenge that may result in growth, success and freedom.

So how do you know if you’ve outgrown a situation, whether it’s in business or personal? Here are three tell-tale checkpoints:

  • Attitude check. Do you find yourself in a constant state of anger or bitterness? Do you oftentimes get annoyed at others or often feel like you’re the smartest person in the room? If so, it may be time for you to seek a new challenge that will further expand your mind, your reach and ultimately, your fulfillment.
  • Vision check. Do you have a clear picture of where you’re going? Are you moving in one direction and others are tracking in a completely different direction? At work, do you see or can you see eye-to-eye with your leader? Conflicts in vision will always produce frustration, disengagement and division. If you once were on board but now possess a deep-seated tension when it comes to rowing in the same direction with your boss, team or relationships in general, it may be time for you to make a transition.
  • Growth check. Do you feel stuck or limited in your role? Are you in a constant state of boredom? If you stop growing, you start dying. And “dying,” in this case means you feel like you are losing your relevance. If opportunities are passing you by or there appears to be no room to grow, it may be time for you to pursue opportunities outside your role to increase your value or pursue a new role/environment altogether.

At each of these checkpoints, there is one underlying constant: change.

Change is your only call-to-action. You must be willing to make changes in your life if you want to own your opportunities. The old saying is that it’s insane to keep doing things the same way and expecting different results. Yes, there is always a risk to change. But the risk is much greater if you choose to stay in a situation that no longer fits you.

    See It Through
    BY EDGAR ALBERT GUEST
    When you’re up against a trouble,
    Meet it squarely, face to face;
    Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
    Plant your feet and take a brace.
    When it’s vain to try to dodge it,
    Do the best that you can do;
    You may fail, but you may conquer,
    See it through!
